From December 5 to 8 a group of students from Dartmouth College (Hanover, New Hampshire) visited together with Rev. Don Willeman Wittenberg. The staff of the Wittenberg Center for Reformations Studies introduced the group to the history of the Reformation and the monuments from the Sixteenth Century. City historian Dr. Insa Christiane Hennen gave an interesting tour of early modern Wittenberg. A seminar room in the Leucorea main building served for working sessions and discussions. Two sections “Reading the Reformation” introduced the group to Martin Luther’s “German Mass”, especially its provocative and inspiring preface, and to Robert Barnes’s martyrdom in 1540. Through Barnes the Wittenberg Reformation is closely linked to early English evangelicalism and the incipient English Reformation.
