Southwest Germany is an important scene of church renewal in the 1520s and 1530s. A key figure is Johannes Brenz, who served first as a leading clergyman in the city of Schwäbisch Hall and then in the Duchy of Württemberg. Guest lecturer Dr. Matthias Deuschle (University of Tübingen, Director of the Bengel House) introduced the group to the person and work of Brenz and showed how the influence of Wittenberg helped to renew the church in the southwest.
In the afternoon, the group met with Fabian Mederacke, pastor of Wittenberg’s Parish Church St. Mary’s. He introduced the Fellows to the situation of the Christian church in eastern Germany today.
