In 2025, the Wittenberg Center for Reformation will continue to offer online courses. Soon, two courses on basic Latin will end, and we will start a new course on Christian Latin for beginners. If you are interested in learning Latin, please contact us. The ongoing translation meetings will continue:

  • John Jewel, Apologia ecclesiae Anglicanae, 1562 (part IV, chapter 12)
  • Lawrence Humfrey, Ioannis Iuelli vita, 1573 (part II, “Academica”)
  • Peter Martyr Vermigli, Loci, 1576 (locus 11, “De sancta trinitate”)
  • Origen, Homilies on Luke

There will be a new translation meeting focusing on Philip Melanchthon’s Latin speeches, which present in sophisticated yet accessible Latin the wide range of his humanistic interests and open a window into the world of the Wittenberg Reformation. We will meet on Friday morning (Central European Time).

The weekly meetings on early modern German and 16th century manuscripts will continue. If you are interested in practicing your language and palaeography skills, but do not have the time to attend the weekly meetings, it is possible to have a few one-on-one sessions over a shorter period of time, or to meet on short notice as your schedule allows.

All online classes are free of charge, and the Wittenberg Center is open to suggestions for developing and adapting the online course program. For more information about the day and time of the various courses, please visit our website:
