Soon a new group will begin reading Origen’s commentary on Romans in Latin. On the one hand, this book provides an introduction to biblical exegesis in the third century and shows how Paul’s letter to the Romans was received in early Christianity. On the other hand, Origen’s commentary is only available in the translation of Rufinus of Aquileia, and so it helps to get used to the theological Latin of the time around 400 AD. We will use a modern edition such as ‘Sources Chrétiennes’. The online meeting takes place on Thursdays at 4 pm CET for about 45 minutes. Please check www.wittenbergcenter.net/latin for upcoming meetings.
