The third week of the Wittenberg Summer Course began with a close look at Wittenberg itself. A lecture presented the early evangelical movement in Germany and a guided visit to the museum and the archive of the city of Wittenberg (Städtische Sammlungen, Magistratsarchiv) showed some of the sources related to the earliest steps of ecclesiastical change. We thank the director of museum and archive, Andreas Wurda, for showing us around. In the afternoon the Fellows studies together with Dr Volkmar Joestel who is currently working on a book on the ‘Wittenberg Movement’ of 1521/22 the famous ‘Beutelordnung’ of 1520/21 and the sequence of events from spring 1521 to spring 1522. Special attention was paid to working with manuscript sources.
